Hardik Pandya twisted his ankle in the ninth over of the India-Bangladesh Cricket World Cup 2023 encounter on October 19 in Pune. Unable to bowl further, he walked off the ground in pain.

After a cautious start, Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan both upped the scoring rate, and Bangladesh reached 37-0 in eight overs. Rohit Sharma replaced Jasprit Bumrah with Hardik Pandya.

Bowling his first over of the match, Pandya tried to stop a ball hit by Das on the follow through, fell on the ground, and twisted his ankle in the process. The physio was called as Hardik writhed in pain. There was an extended delay, and he eventually hobbled back to the bowling mark. However, he had to leave the field after facing discomfort.

Virat Kohli completed the over, conceding two runs in three balls. In 2019, Pandya was forced out of the World Cup halfway through the tournament with a back injury: he could not finish the match against Pakistan.

Pandya subsequently left for a scan of his ankle. The Indian team management updated that Pandya will not take field for the rest of the Bangladesh innings.

After electing to bat, Das and Tanzid (51 in 43 balls) added 93 in 88 balls before Kuldeep Yadav snared Tanzid and Ravindra Jadeja got stand-in captain Najmul Hossain Shanto. At the time of writing, Bangladesh were 118-2 in 23 overs with Das (53) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (2) at the crease.
