India vs Australia, World Cup 2023: Live updates

10-over update: India 27-3. Things have steadied a bit, but it’s slow progress.

Shreyas Iyer follows suit: what’s happening? India have lost their top three for a mere two runs!

Rohit dismissed! Scorcher from Josh Hazlewood, cuts into the India captain. A desperate review, but he’s gone.

Ishan Kishan is out for a duck! Chases a wide delivery on his World Cup debut, and ends up walking back first ball.

200 to win their opening game of CWC 2023. Do you think India can chase it down?

Dinesh Karthik’s prediction was pretty spot on!

Jadeja has ripped through Australia’s middle order! Steve Smith, Ravindra Jadeja and Alex Carey… all gone. When the pitch was getting extra bounce and dust puffs early, one knew Jadeja could be a handful. And he’s proved it right.

Kuldeep strikes now! David Warner and Steve Smith seemed to have settled in, but here comes the important breakthrough in the 17th over.

The 50 is up for Australia. Steady, after the early loss. Kohli has been brilliant on the field, flying about. Jadeja’s warming up – is he going to get a go soon?

What a guy!

Injury scare for Pandya? Got hit on his finger while bowling his first over, which went for 13 runs. He went out of the field for one over as Ashwin bowled, but returned soon after treatment. He isn’t bowling right away though.

Warner out  –  Bumrah strikes! Virat Kohli takes a flying catch! It’s a dream start for the home team. The fast bowler is getting early zing, some movement and extra lift.

Australia won the toss and opted to bat first.

India vs Australia, World Cup 2023 Match 5: Team news

Australia have traditionally dominated India in World Cup matches. They have won eight out of 10 times against the hosts. However, India emerged victorious when they met last time in 2019, thanks to a Player of the Match knock of 117 off 109 by Shikhar Dhawan.

India are going through a purple patch after a successful Asia Cup 2023, followed by an ODI series win against Australia. Shubman Gill has reportedly tested positive for dengue and is unwell. However, a call on his selection will be taken based on his fitness at the last minute. Tweaker Ravichandran Ashwin will likely get the nod on a spin-friendly Chepauk pitch ahead of a third pacer.

The big guns have returned for Australia ahead of their curtain-raiser fixture. Mitchell Marsh will open the innings in place of an injured Travis Head, who is set to miss the initial few encounters. In the third ODI against India a few days back, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood played together for the first time since November 2020. The decorated pace attack will look to deliver a sucker punch.

India vs Australia predicted XIs

India: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj.

Australia: Mitchell Marsh, David Warner, Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey (wk), Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Pat Cummins (c), Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa.

Match prediction – today’s India-Australia live match

If India can manoeuvre past Australia’s new ball onslaught, the match is theirs to win. A spin-friendly Cheapuk pitch with three quality spinners – Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja – in their ranks tilts the game heavily in their favour.
