CWC 2023: Fans baffled by inconsistent font sizes, sleeve sponsors on England World Cup shirt

England’s 2023 World Cup kit has caused confusion among fans after it was noticed that the shirts were not uniform, with different font sizes and sleeve logos used across the squad.

The England squad posed for a team photo before their second match of the tournament in Dharamsala. However once the photo was posted on social media, commenters noticed differences across the shirts each team member was wearing. On roughly half of the shirts, the font which spells out ‘England’ across the wearer’s chest was larger than the others.

There was a further discrepancy noticed, with the sponsor logo on each sleeve of the shirt on opposite sides of some shirts as opposed to the others. Even more confusingly, the shirts with the logos on different sleeves did not match the shirts on which the font was a bigger or smaller size. Seemingly both mismatches were randomly spread across the batch of shirts.

The official England Men’s ODI World Cup replica shirt available to buy on the ECB website shows the smaller font emblazoned across the chest, and the ‘Cinch’ sponsor logo on the left sleeve. The ECB have been approached for comment on why there are discrepancies across the kit.

While England might have been playing their match against Bangladesh today (October 10) in mismatched kit, they put on a clinical performance to bounce back from their opening defeat. Dawid Malan scored his fourth hundred of the year as England posted 364-9, before Reece Topley bowled a blistering new ball spell to rip through Bangladesh’s top order.

England will play their next match of the tournament against Afghanistan on Sunday, October 15 in Delhi.
