Watch: Barbados Royals seamer Nyeem Young conceded 34 runs in a ten-ball over to finish the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots’ innings against the duo of Corbin Bosch and Dominic Drakes in CPL 2023 yesterday (August 26).

In the 10th match of CPL 2023, Barbados Royals won the toss and elected to field first at the Warner Park in Basseterre yesterday (August 26). At the 18-over mark, they would have thought that they had done a decent job at restricting the Patriots to 147-6.

However, a two-over blitz saw the batting team score 50 runs to take their total to a daunting 197-6. The 19th over bowled by Obed McCoy cost 16 runs, however, it was the 20th over that was the clincher.

Young came on for the final over of the innings, having previously bowled well to record figures of 2-21 off three overs in the match. Bosch and Drakes had both spent some time at the crease and capitalized on the pressure that Young was under.

He started off with a wide before bowling a slot ball to Drakes that was swung over mid-wicket for six. The next ball was a high full toss that was above the waist height. Bosch came on strike to face the free hit delivery and hit a four followed by a six clobbered over mid-wicket. By then, Young had already conceded 20 off the first three balls.

After a dot ball, Bosch hit another six towards cow corner. Young followed it up with a wide and another waist-high full toss that was somehow reverse-ramped over the wicketkeeper for six. He finally nailed a yorker off the last ball to concede a single and cap off a ten-ball over which saw 34 runs being conceded.

Despite the massive shifting of momentum, however, Barbados Royals were able to comfortably chase down the target with six wickets and more than an over to spare, thanks largely to an unbeaten 29-ball 67 by captain Rovman Powell.
