Watch: Bangladesh captain, Nigar Sultana, hurled her bat in frustration at a marginal lbw call as she walked off the pitch during her side’s T20I defeat to India today (May 2).

Bangladesh came into the game having already lost the series, comfortably defeated by India in the first two matches. Sultana came into bat after a successful powerplay partnership for Bangladesh, Murshida Khan and Dilara Akter putting on 46 in the first 6.3 overs. However, they lost wickets at regular intervals after that, with their run rate slowing right down.

Sultana stayed at the crease to anchor the innings, scoring 28 off 36 balls. Bangladesh were 108-4 with 10 balls remaining in the innings when, facing up to Radha Yadav, Sultana advanced down the pitch to a good length ball. Attempting to hit down the ground, she misjudged the line of the ball and it hit her front pad. Despite the impact looking high, with Sultana almost two metres down the pitch and the ball hitting her thigh pad, the umpire’s finger went up.

As she walked off the pitch, Sultana showed her frustration with the decision, shouting at the dugout before throwing her bat and helmet away as she walked over the boundary line.

This isn’t the first time tension has run high between the two sides. Last year Harmanpreet Kaur received a two-match ban for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision, smashing the stumps with her bat. She also criticised the umpiring after the match.

Bangladesh finished their innings on 117-8, which India chased down with nine balls to spare, Shafali Verma scoring a half century.
