Australia are set to take on West Indies in a two-match Test series starting next week in Perth – here is the schedule and match timings for both of the matched in the series.
Following a thumping victory in their three-match ODI series against England, Australia are now gearing up for a summer of Test cricket. Pat Cummins’ side last competed in the longest format back in July when they drew a two-match series against Sri Lanka 1-1. Nathan Lyon was instrumental in favourable conditions, taking 11 wickets in the series with Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne scoring hundreds in the second match.
West Indies have played five Test matches this year and have won their previous three. They claimed victory over England by ten wickets in the final match of their home series in March before beating Bangladesh twice in June. Tagenarine Chanderpaul, son of West Indies legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul, has earned his maiden Test call-up for the series and is expected to open the batting alongside captain Kraigg Brathwaite. Rahkeem Cornwall was not selected in the squad despite being the leading wicket-taker in the West Indies domestic four-day competition.
Australia have dominated the recent encounters between the sides, winning every series the teams have contested in the 21st century. West Indies have only a solitary Test win to their name in that time.
The series forms part of the 2021-23 World Test Championship. Australia are currently top of the table, with six wins and one defeat from 10 games, while West Indies, with four wins, three defeats and two draws, are sixth. The World Test Championship final will be held at The Oval in London next summer.
