With Australia aiming at a declaration close to tea, highly-rated newbie Cameron Green went on a six-hitting spree, taking on India’s pacers with disdain against the second new ball.
India had delayed the new ball to deny Australia easy runs at the 80-over mark, but two overs later, Jasprit Bumrah was steaming in against Cameron Green – who was close to a maiden Test fifty – and Tim Paine. Green completed his half-century in the over with a streaky edge through gully, and then took off against Mohammed Siraj from the other end.
Off the fourth ball of Siraj’s over, Green stepped out to launch the Indian pacer over long-on for a maximum, almost treating the fast bowler like a spinner.

In Siraj’s next over, Green was on the charge again, smashing two more sixes, off back-to-back deliveries, over long-on. One of them, a mishit, still flew over the ropes as Green raced into the 70s.

Following a small break in play surrounding an incident with the crowd, Green went ballistic against Bumrah this time. The seamer was driven down the ground for four before a pull shot sent the ball over deep square leg and into the crowd. Off another attempt to hit a six, though, Green nicked through to the keeper to bring an end to an enterprising innings.
The Australian all-rounder, highly touted after his domestic performances, had made 33 runs off his last 16 balls to end on a career-best 84.
