BAN vs AFG, Asia Cup 2023 Match 4: Team news

Afghanistan are coming off a 0-3 whitewash against Pakistan, and will want to turn things around ahead of the World Cup. They will rely on a world-class spin attack, led by but not restricted to Rashid Khan, against Bangladesh.

This will be Afghanistan’s first international match in any format on Pakistan soil.

Bangladesh had a wretched start to their Asia Cup campaign. Bowled out for 164 at Pallekele, they had reduced Sri Lanka to 43-3, then 128-5, before succumbing to a five-wicket defeat.

Barring Najmul Hossain Shanto (89), none of their batters managed to go past 20, though the bowling attack impressed. They need to beat Afghanistan in order to stay alive in the race for the Super Four – and even a victory will not suffice.

Bangladesh vs Afghanistan, Asia Cup 2023 Match 4: Predicted Playing XIs

Bangladesh XI: Shakib Al Hasan (c), Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mohammad Naim, Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mahedi Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman

Afghanistan XI: Hashmatullah Shahidi (c), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Riaz Hassan, Najibullah Zadran, Ibrahim Zadran, Karim Janat, Abdul Rahman

Match prediction – Today’s Asia Cup live

Over the last ten years, only India have a better win-loss ratio than Bangladesh in ODIs on Asian soil. They will come hard at Afghanistan in this must-win match. Afghanistan, on the other hand, won an ODI series in Bangladesh earlier this year. Expect a keen contest.
