IND vs SL, Asia Cup 2023: Team news

Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah will return to the India XI after being rested in the dead-rubber against Bangladesh. India have looked a formidable team ever since the comeback of senior players like KL Rahul and Bumrah from long injury layoffs. Bumrah’s fiery 12 overs in the Super Fours matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka are enough to convince the cricketing world about his form. Shubman Gill leads the list of run-getters with 275 runs from five matches at an average of 68.75, while Kuldeep Yadav has taken the most wickets (9) for Rohit Sharma’s men. Washington Sundar has been called as a cover for Axar Patel, who sustained several injuries during India’s six-run defeat against Bangladesh on September 15.

Sri Lanka have lost key off-spinner Maheesh Theekshana due to a hamstring injury ahead of the important clash. Sahan Arachchige, who represented Sri Lanka in two outings in the past, has been named as his replacement. Theekshana’s miss doesn’t make the attack less potent as 20-year-old Dunith Wellalage took a five-wicket haul in his last match against India with his left-arm-orthodox spin.

Match prediction – Today’s Asia Cup live match

Despite the loss in the inconsequential contest against Bangladesh, India are favourites going into this match. Kuldeep is their trump card in the middle overs to choke the run-flow. He rattled both Pakistan and Sri Lanka in India’s Super Four fixtures with figures of 5-25 and 4-43, respectively.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka are coming into this match after winning a last-ball nail-biter against Pakistan, which saw them through to the final. As both the teams have won the same number of games in the Super Fours stage (2 out of 3), there’s every chance the home team could humble India.
