The 2023 Ashes is now in full swing, with England and Australia having kicked off the series at Edgbaston. The match is delicately poised at the time of writing, England having scored 393-8 before declaring in the evening of day one. Australia slipped to 67-3 on the morning of day two before Travis Head and Usman Khawaja attacked Moeen Ali after lunch. They took the score to 148-3 before Head was out caught to Moeen. A missed stumping from Jonny Bairstow that would have dismissed Cameron Green early means Australia are battling on but still a long way from parity with England.
However, rain could take time out of the game on day three. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for parts of England and Wales, including Birmingham. Heavy thunderstorms are predicted across swathes of the country, and are set to hit Birmingham around lunch time. There could also be some showers in the morning as well.
The rain could last all afternoon and result in a significant amount of time lost in the game. Thunderstorms and showers are also predicted for days four and five, meaning getting a result from the Test match could be challenging.
England has been mostly bathed in sunshine and heat for the last few weeks, with the early summer sun choosing an unfortunate time to break.
