Ashes 2023, second Test: News and updates

Moeen Ali’s finger had been the talk of the town. In his comeback game in the first match of the series, he injured his finger and there were doubts regarding his participation in the second Test. Rehan Ahmed was called as a cover for Moeen. However, neither has found a place in the England XI for the Lord’s Test with England opting for Josh Tongue instead, given the green Lord’s surface on offer.

Australia would be pondering on whether to get Mitchell Starc back in the team after he was left out for Scott Boland in the first Test. Boland was attacked by the English batters on a docile surface at Edgbaston. However, his quality on seaming surfaces is well-known and might tempt Australia to back him for a second successive game.

Match prediction

Since their arrival, Australia have won two Tests on this tour: the WTC Final against India and the first Ashes Test against England. They were hit hard by England’s Bazball approach in the previous game but weathered the storm long enough to end up victorious. England will continue to come hard at them, but given the belief and momentum Australia are carrying at the moment, they will start off as slight favourites.
