Born in Goulborn, Trevor Bayliss moved to Sydney to represent New South Wales in Australian domestic cricket. He went on to play 58 first-class games for his side, his best season being 1989-90, where he scored 992 runs at a staggering average of 55.11.

An excellent fielder in the covers and a powerful middle-order batsman, Bayliss got involved with the New South Wales Cricket Association as a cricket development officer, before making his mark as NSW’s head coach. Taking over from Steve Rixon in 2004-05, he took his side to greater heights by guiding NSW to a Pura Cup title, followed by the ING trophy.

Further, Bayliss was appointed coach of the Sri Lankan national team succeeding Tom Moody in 2007. However, he stepped down soon after Sri Lanka’s run to the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. Though, Bayliss has the credential of taking the Islanders to the 2009 World Twenty20 finals.

The Australian was appointed head coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders for the fifth IPL edition in 2012.
