Mahidul Islam Ankon is a promising wicketkeeper-batter from Bangladesh who made steady progress through the domestic ranks. He made his First-class debut in 2018 for Chittagong Division and impressed with a composed 59 in his very first innings, showcasing solid technique and temperament. His List A debut came earlier that year for Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity, where he scored a gritty 42 and contributed behind the stumps as well. Ankon's T20 debut arrived in the same year during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), and though he didn’t make a huge impact initially, his potential was evident. In 2018, he scored his maiden List A ton playing in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League. The following season, he was the leading run-scorer with 420 runs in 11 matches.
On the domestic front, Ankon has been a consistent performer across formats. He was a standout in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup for Bangladesh, finishing as the team’s highest run-getter, which gave a glimpse of his talent on the global stage. In red-ball cricket, he's known for his patience and ability to anchor the innings, while in the shorter formats, his strike rotation and smart game awareness make him a reliable top-order batter. His hardwork finally paid off when he made his Test debut against South Africa in 2024.
Ankon has featured in the Bangladesh Premier League, most notably for Comilla Victorians, where he played a crucial role in their 2018–19 title win. He scored vital runs during pressure situations and gained valuable experience rubbing shoulders with international stars. After a long time with the Victorians, he switched to Khulna Tigers for the 2024-25 season.
