Biography

Kaushalya Weeraratne has had his secondary education at the very well renowned Trinity College (Kandy), which is the only school in the world to own a Test class cricket stadium. He is a right-arm medium-pace bowler, whose main delivery is the out swinger. From the very beginning he was tipped to be an all rounder who would play for Sri Lanka, and this despite the fact that his bowling was stronger than his batting. He clearly had the capability to hit the ball as clean as a whistle and played for the Sri Lanka's Under-19 World Cup squad in 2000. He snapped 12 wickets at a miserly average of 13 apiece. This brought Weeraratne into the reckoning for the National team. Weeraratne made his ODI debut in the Asia Cup in 2000. He could not maintain his place in the side because of poor form and injury and did not play for almost five years after 2003. Then he remodelled his action and hit what is deemed to be the fastest half century in first class cricket – off twelve deliveries – to get into the selectors' radar. He received a call up to the national squad for the tour of the West Indies in 2008.
