Biography
Dean Brownlie initially played for Western Australia’s Under-17 and Under-19 sides, but later, peeved at not being offered enough opportunities in his home country, switched to New Zealand in search of greener pastures.
Brownlie made his first appearance in a first-class game for Canterbury in early 2010, and could not have scripted a better debut as he scored his maiden ton against Northern Districts. He finished that season averaging 52 in first-class cricket and also excelled in the shorter formats of the game which were rewarded with Canterbury elevating him from the middle order to the top order.
The added responsibility did not deter the right hander, who continued to remain consistent and just 10 months into playing club cricket in New Zealand; Brownlie earned his call up for national duty for the Kiwis in a T20 series against Pakistan. In 2012, he was named in the ODI as Test squad for the series against West Indies.
