Amol Muzumdar
Overview
Biography
Amol Muzumdar is a right-handed batsman with a flair for timing the ball than power. With over 11,000 first-class runs, he is considered to be one of the most gifted cricketers in the Indian domestic circuit. However, Muzumdar is also unfortunate to have never donned the national colours.
One of Muzumdar's best knocks came on his debut for Mumbai where he made an unbeaten 260 in a Ranji Trophy game against Haryana. During the marathon 664-run unbeaten partnership between Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli for Shardashram School, it was Muzumdar who had to go through the eternal and endless wait with his pads on to walk in next. He made tons of runs in domestic cricket and was the vice-captain of India U-19 in 1994, also playinf alongside Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid for India A.
However, despite steady performances in domestic cricket, Muzumdar could never manage to impress the national selectors and still hasn't played a single game for the Indian national team. In 2006-07, he responded well to the full-time captaincy entrusted upon him by leading his team to a victory in the domestic championship. In January 2007, he became the highest-ever run-scorer in the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai beating the record set by Ashok Mankad. In 2009, after being dropped by Mumbai for Buchi Babu tournament, Muzumdar announced he would play for Assam in the next Ranji Trophy season and did so. The diminutive batsman then switched to Andhra and continued to play in the Ranji Trophy.
