Quiz! The post-war bowlers with the best Test averages (minimum 2,000 balls)

by Wisden Staff 6-minute play

In this quiz, you’ll have to name the post-war bowlers with the best averages in Test cricket. We’ve set the cut-off to a minimum of 2,000 balls sent down.

Averages are tricky. Some of the leading wicket-takers in the world miss out on it, there are a few eyebrow-raising names in there, and there’s generally an odd mix of all-time greats with fleeting wonders.

It’s also evident from this list that sub-continent bowlers don’t have the best bowling averages – out of 30 players in this quiz, only four players represent the sub-continent, although one of them is placed as high as No.2.

You have six minutes to name all 30 players. Each bowler’s career average, the team they represented, as well as the span of their Test careers, have been mentioned. Do keep in mind that, if a player has played even a single Test after the second World War, he is factored in this list, even if he’s played matches before that.

All the best, then!
