The inaugural edition of the Women’s CPL (WCPL) will begin on August 31 at Warner Park in St Kitts. Here is the list of TV channels and live streaming platforms that will telecast the tournament.
The inaugural edition of the WCPL will feature three teams. Barbados Royals will be led by West Indies all-rounder Hayley Matthews. Deandra Dottin, who recently announced her retirement from international cricket, will captain Trinbago Knight Riders, while Stafanie Taylor will be in charge of Guyana Amazon Warriors. Several other West Indies stars – Anisa Mohammed, Chinelle Henry, Shakera Selman and Shamilia Connell – have also signed up for the competition.
The West Indies women’s cricket team have been in decent international form of late. At the Women’s World Cup earlier in the year, they made the semi-final ahead of the likes of India and New Zealand in the process. This tournament thus comes at perhaps the most opportune moment for women cricketers in the Caribbean, considering it gives them the platform to showcase their talent. They also have an ODI and T20I series against New Zealand lined up in September, and players would want to make the most of the exposure the WCPL provides.
This edition will only feature three teams, but it may expand in the future, with other overseas players likely to participate. The WCPL begins on August 31 with Barbados Royals taking on Trinbago Knight Riders. A day later, Guyana Amazon Warriors will clash with Trinbago Knight Riders, before Barbados Royals lock horns with Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final group game.
The top two teams will then qualify for the final, which is slated to be held on September 4 at Warner Park.
