Simon Jones, the former England pacer, has recounted a hilarious story about the time Andrew Flintoff found a bumblebee in his locker.
Flintoff, in his time as England’s bulking all-rounder, has faced many dangerous moments on the field. While in his latest avatar as a presenter of Top Gear, BBC’s car show, he pulls off daring feats that few other cricketers presumably can.

All of which had Jones in a fit when he remembered the time Flintoff found a bumblebee in his locker room when England toured the Caribbean in 2004. “I’m intrigued watching Fred do the dumbest stuff ever [on Top Gear] – that bungee jump! – and that guy doesn’t get scared,” Jones said on The Broken Trophy podcast.
“The only time I’ve seen Fred scared before that right was when we were in the West Indies in 2004, and there was a bumblebee in his locker. Honest to god, guys.
Ever wondered whether you could bungee jump in a car? Freddie Flintoff and @harrismonkey have the answer, and it’s… terrifying. Catch up on the latest #TopGear on UKTV Play! https://t.co/3D1p3dOB7V @BBC_TopGear pic.twitter.com/ZY2AbqDT1n

“He’s a big man, right? He was like, ‘Jonesy, can you go and … sort my locker out?’ I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ He just said, ‘There’s a bumblebee in there.’ I said, ‘No, you can’t be scared of a bumblebee. Sorry, not having that. Not having that.’
“And it was a bumblebee in there. I thought it was a tarantula or something like that, you know what I mean? But it was a bumblebee.”
