After a surprise defeat in the first game and a cruising victory in the second, Pakistan won the toss in the third T20I and sent Ireland in. Shaheen Shah Afridi didn’t take long to get into business with the ball. Sharing the new ball with Mohammad Amir, Shaheen struck in his second and the team’s third over, removing the right-handed Ross Adair with a typical hooping inswinger.

Adair had cleared his front leg in an attempt to send the ball downtown, but the swing undid him: he missed the line of the ball completely and lost his stumps.

Shaheen went on to take two more wickets, one of Neil Rock in the 15th over and another of Mark Adair, Ross’ brother in the 19th over. He finished with figures of 3-14 from his four overs as Ireland rode on the back of Lorcan Tucker’s 73 off 41 balls to score 178-7 in their 20 overs.

In response, Pakistan were cruising at 149-1 after 14 overs, with Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan at the crease.
