Watch: Mohammad Nawaz and Tanzim Hasan Sakib turned on the heat with a fiery shoulder barge during a Bangladesh Premier League match between Khulna Tigers and Sylhet Strikers yesterday (January 12).
The incident happened in the 17th over of Khulna’s chase of 182 runs. Off the first delivery, Tanzim dismissed Nawaz with a slower one as the batter chipped the ball in the air towards third man, where Zakir Hasan completed a regulation catch. The Pakistan all-rounder perished for an 18-ball 33, with Khulna still needing 53 off 23 for a win.
After the dismissal, Tanzim was seen giving Nawaz a mouthful as the latter was on his way to the dugout. Then the two barged into each other as tempers flared midpitch. They had to be separated to ease up the tense situation.
With 18 runs to defend off the last over, Ruyel Miah bowled a dot before conceding two consecutive boundaries to bring down the equation to 10 from three. Ruyel struck back by dismissing ominous-looking Aby Haider for a six-ball 14 off the very next ball. Another wicket followed off the penultimate ball, this time a run out of set Mahidul Islam Ankon for 28 off 16. Sylhett eventually won the match by eight runs registering their second win in five matches. They are currently fifth on the points table, while Khulna, with two wins and as many losses are just above them, at four. Rangpur Riders, unbeaten in the tournament in six matches so far, are the table toppers.
Zakir was awarded the Player of the Match for his unbeaten 46-ball 75 which helped the winning team set up a competitive total.
