Mohammedan Sporting Club posted 317-6 in a Dhaka Premier League match at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur after Prime Bank Cricket Club captain Zakir Hasan won the toss and opted to field.
Opener Rony Talukdar top-scored with a 131-ball 141 – he hit eight fours and nine sixes – while Mahidul Islam Ankon made 50 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz blasted an unbeaten 29-ball 53.
Shahad Dipu (51) and Zakir (41) Prime Bank in the hunt. Mushfiqur Rahim helped push the score to 162-3 in 33.3 overs. Nayeem Hasan then tossed up a ball outside the off-stump, and Mushfiqur tried to clear the deep mid-wicket fence.
The ball seemed headed for a four on the bounce, but Abu Hider Rony sprinted, then flung himself to the left to come up with a magnificent catch. It was a catch so spectacular that even a substitute fielder ran on to the ground to celebrate.
Mushfiqur was about to leave the ground but did not cross the boundary line. As new man Naeem Islam stood outside the rope, the umpires, AI Mohammad Moniruzzaman and Shathira Jakir Jessy, referred to television umpire Shahin Al Asad.
Television replays revealed that while Rony’s catch had been clean, his boot had touched the rope as he recovered and ran to celebrate. Nevertheless, the umpires ruled Mushfiqur out – but not before a ten-minute delay.
Prime Bank soon became 166-5 before Mahedi (64 in 45 balls) and Sunzamul Islam (49 in 35) added 101 in 73 balls. Mohammedan Sporting eventually bowled them out for 284 to win by 33 runs. Rony returned 2-48, Mushfik Hasan 2-59, and Nasum Ahmed 2-56.
