Watch: Lancashire left-arm seamer Luke Wood bowled the most perfect inswinging yorker yesterday (May 27) to dismantle Alex Hales‘ stumps in a Vitality Blast game against Nottinghamshire.
Lancashire were playing their third game of the season at Old Trafford, against Nottinghamshire, having won their first two. They won the toss and chose to bat first, and scored 208-4 in their 20 overs.
Daryl Mitchell was their star performer with the bat, scoring 85 off 41 balls, while Phil Salt, Luke Wells, and Liam Livingstone made handy thirties. With 1-47 from four overs, Shaheen Shah Afridi ended up being the most expensive bowler of the match.
Joe Clarke and Alex Hales then opened batting for Nottinghamshire. Luke Wood, who has played two T20Is and an ODI for England, opened the bowling for Lancashire.
Hales came on strike after Clarke got a single off the first ball. Wood swings the ball into the right-handers, aimed for the stumps and Hales’ pads, and hit the bull’s eye. Hales’ bat came down too late against the quick, inswinging yorker.
As the off-stump went cartwheeling, Wood ran off towards the leg-side boundary: “What a celebration he’s having.. he’s halfway to the city centre,” quipped the commentator on air.

Wood dismissed Clarke as well and finished with figures of 2-29 off his four overs, the best by any bowler in the game. Lancashire won the game comfortably by 22 runs in the end to record their third successive victory of the season.
