Watch: Namibia all-rounder David Wiese showed just how good he still is at 38, leaping on the boundary ropes to clutch an extraordinary catch.
Wiese was the Player of the Match for his all-round contribution against Oman in the fourth T20I, including an unbeaten 32-ball 51 and figures of 4-1-26-3. There were also two catches, one of them a brilliant one-handed effort in the deep.
Rafiullah, Oman’s No.7, was the victim of Wiese’s athleticism in the 15th over of their chase of 165. With the run-rate mounting, he cleared his front foot and attempted to clear the long-off fence, and made a solid contact. However, Wiese – nearly two metres in height – leapt to intercept the stroke. He managed to hold onto it spectacularly with one hand, leaving his teammates in disbelief.
Oman eventually fell short by 24 runs, with Wiese claiming back-to-back wickets in the 20th over – a maiden – to leave them on 140-9.
Wiese made his international debut 11 years ago, for South Africa, playing for them until 2016. In 2021, he made a comeback via the Namibia team, playing a starring role in their qualification for that year’s T20 World Cup.
Watch Wiese take a screamer:
