In a Legends League Cricket Match at Ranchi, Chris Gayle swatted Colin de Grandhomme for a one-handed six over mid-wicket.
Opting to bowl at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association Stadium, the Gujarat Giants restricted the Manipal Tigers to 173-8. For Manipal, Hamilton Masakadza hit 37 in 18 balls, while Thisara Perera smashed a 17-ball 32 as Rajat Bhatia finished with 3-31.
Chris Gayle, 44 years old, opened the batting with Jacques Kallis, and both men set off from the onset. Kallis cut loose in the fifth over, putting Mitchell McClenaghan away for four fours.
Colin de Grandhomme came on to bowl the next over. Gayle picked up two boundaries from the first five balls and a third off the sixth, which turned out to be a no-ball.
As De Grandhomme bowled the free-hit short, outside the off-stump, Gayle simply stood back and middled the pull. His front hand came off the bat during the stroke, but there was enough power for the ball to soar over the mid-wicket fence.
Gayle was eventually bowled by Imran Khan for a 24-ball 38. Gujarat slipped from 75-0 to 99-3, but Kallis and Parthiv Patel kept them in the hunt. At the second strategic timeout, they needed 26 in 24 balls with Kallis (54 in 38 balls) and Parthiv (32 in 21) at the crease.
