Watch: Sachin Tendulkar rolled back the years to unleash an array of all-too-familiar strokes against England in an International Masters League match at Navi Mumbai.
India restricted England to 132-8 in 20 overs at the DY Patil Stadium after Tendulkar won the toss and opted to field. Tim Ambrose (23 in 22 balls) and Darren Maddy (25 in 24) took England to 68-2, but they had already batted well into the 11th over. England lost wickets in a heap thereafter, mostly against Dhawal Kulkarni (3-21), Abhimanyu Mithun (2-27), and Pawan Negi (2-16).
Tendulkar then walked out to open batting with Gurkeerat Singh Mann. Gurkeerat smashed two fours in Ryan Sidebottom’s first over and three more in the second, bowled by Tim Bresnan.
In the third over, bowled by Steven Finn, Tendulkar leaned into a ball outside the off-stump and drove it to the cover fence. When Finn pitched short, Tendulkar pulled him violently for four more. In the next over, he stepped out and drove Chris Tremlett to the long-on fence.
India were 49-0 after four overs. When Bresnan began the fifth over with a short-pitched ball, Tendulkar dispatched it over the square-leg fence for a massive six. He pulled the next ball to the mid-wicket fence, and stepped out to send the one after that to the cover boundary.
By the time Chris Schofield (1-33) had him caught by Ambrose, Tendulkar had already made a 21-ball 34. Gurkeerat (63 not out in 35 balls) and Yuvraj Singh (27 not out in 14) ensured India reached home with 50 balls to spare without losing another wicket.
