Facing the first ball of the second over, Suryavanshi latched on to the length ball bowled by Sri Lanka’s Dulnith Sigera early. Middling the ball with the meat of the bat, he launched the ball into the sky and it ended up landing outside the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
It was the first of three sixes that the left-hander smacked in the second over. He also hit a boundary while Sigera was guilty of bowling five wides, a no ball as well as four byes that added 31 runs to India’s scoreboard from the second over.
The 13-year-old, who became the youngest to land an Indian Premier League contract after fetching INR 1.10 crore from Rajasthan Royals at the IPL 2025 auction recently, has also been making headlines with his displays on the pitch.
He smashed 76 not out off 46 deliveries to help his side beat hosts the United Arab Emirates by 10 wickets, confirming India’s spot in the last four. India finished second in Group A behind Pakistan who won all three league games.
At the time of writing, India were 143-2 chasing 174, with Suryavanshi dismissed for 67 off 36 balls.
