South Africa white-ball head coach Rob Walter has resigned from his post.
Walter started in his role in March 2023 and took South Africa to the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup under his guidance, and the semi-finals of the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy. They lost the T20 World Cup final to India, and the two semis to Australia and New Zealand respectively.
In a X (formerly Twitter) post, Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced Walter's resignation.
"Cricket South Africa (CSA) wishes to announce the resignation of the Proteas Men’s white-ball head coach, Rob Walter, effective 30 April 2025. Walter has attributed his resignation to personal reasons, which CSA has accepted," the CSA statement read.
Walter coached South Africa in 36 ODIs and 31 T20Is, winning 19 and 14 games respectively. Under him, South Africa had an overall win-loss ratio of 0.97.
"Coaching the Proteas has been an incredible honour, and I am immensely proud of what we have achieved together,” Walter said.
“The players, support staff, and the South African cricketing community have been fantastic throughout this journey. While it’s time for me to step away, I have no doubt that the team will continue to grow and reach even greater heights.”
Cricket South Africa have neither announced his replacement so far, nor given any potential timeline for the same.
Their next white-ball assignment is a T20I tri-series in Zimbabwe involving the home team and New Zealand.
