Yashasvi Jaiswal likely to switch his domestic team to Goa

According to reports, Mumbai and India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is likely to switch his domestic team to Goa.

On Tuesday (April 2), Jaiswal emailed to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), seeking a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for a change of domestic cricket team from Mumbai to Goa, reported The Indian Express. Jaiswal wants the change to be incorporated from the 2025/26 Indian domestic season.

The report quoted a source in the MCA: “He [Jaiswal] has sought a NOC from us and has cited that the reason for his move to Goa as personal.” If he switches base, Jaiswal will be following the footsteps of Siddhesh Lad and Arjun Tendulkar, both of whom moved from Mumbai to Goa (though Lad has since returned to Mumbai).

Mumbai was where the Uttar Pradesh-born Jaiswal had built his cricketing career in. He has been playing in the city since his age-group days. His struggles in the city and his success despite that are among contemporary cricket’s great stories.

From 10 first-class matches for Mumbai, Jaiswal has 863 runs at 53.93. His 25 List A games have fetched him 1,296 runs at 58.90 (they include a double hundred). And in T20, he has struck at 136 across 28 games. It will be a significant change for him.

While reasons for this potential shift of base remains unclear, another source suggests that Jaiswal may lead Goa. He has never led Mumbai other than in a solitary game for the Under-16s side, against Andhra Under-16s in 2015/16.

It is worth a mention that when Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson was set to not keep (or field) in the first three games of IPL 2025, the franchise used the Impact Player on (or with) him. For these three games, they appointed Riyan Parag as captain, overlooking Jaiswal.
