Tanusree Sarkar creates world record
With a slender lead going into their second innings, Sarkar batted her side to a considerable advantage. After Verma was dismissed in the sixth over of the innings, Sarkar came to the crease and struck another century, combining with Rodrigues for an unbeaten 132-run stand and finishing on 102* off 184 balls. The partnership saw the match to its conclusion, ending in a draw after three days.
However, Sarkar takes a personal record from the game. Her two hundreds are the first recorded instance of a player scoring a century in both innings of a women's first-class game.
There is little women's first-class cricket played in domestic competitions across the world, with India and Bangladesh the only two countries with officially scheduled competitions. Women's Test matches are also far less frequent than men's Tests, with only 149 played to date in the history of the game, giving less opportunities for firsts like Sarkar's.
Sarkar has played seven first-class matches across her career to date since her debut in the format in 2016.
