England took just one wicket on the final day of their last Ashes tour match as 18-year-old Jason Sangha and 22-year-old Matt Short both hit a centuries for CA XI to secure a comfortable draw.
With James Anderson rested for the game, Jake Ball recovering from injury, and seamers Stuart Broad, Chris Woakes and Craig Overton used sparingly, spinners Moeen Ali and Mason Crane bowled the bulk of the overs. Crane took the only wicket of the day, having Sangha caught by David Malan after becoming the youngest Australian to score a first-class hundred against England.
Ball appears to be recovering unexpectedly quickly from the ankle sprain that had him on crutches a few days ago, and now looks favourite for the fourth seamer’s spot at Brisbane with Craig Overton having been unable to make the position his.
It was a sobering last day of action before the Ashes gets underway on Thursday next week.
