The ECB announced its list of men's centrally contracted players for the 2024/25 season on Thursday, which included extensions for international skippers Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler.

The ECB introduced multi-year central contracts from the start of the 2023/24 season, and a total of 18 players signed deals running for two or three years last October

One of the most notable players to earn only a one-year contract last year was Test captain Ben Stokes, who turned down the ECB's offer of a three-year deal. It had been confirmed earlier this month, though, that Stokes had signed a new two-year deal, which is reflected in the current contract list.

White-ball skipper Jos Buttler signed a two-year contract last year, and has secured another one starting from this season. He will now be contracted until 2026.

Buttler has not played any competitive cricket since the 2024 T20 World Cup in June, having suffered a calf injury which ruled him out of The Hundred entirely, before he missed the white-ball series against Australia in September.

Buttler's rehabilitation from the injury suffered a "setback" last week, and he will miss the ODI series against West Indies in the Caribbean. However, he is still expected to play the five-match T20I series.

Five other players have secured central contracts for the first time – Jamie Smith (2 years), Shoaib Bashir (1 year), Will Jacks (1 year), Phil Salt (1 year) and Olly Stone (1 year). Jacob Bethell and Josh Hull have signed development contracts, as has John Turner who did so last year as well.
