Against and in Costa Rica in March 2025, Andrew Brownlee of Falkland Islands became the oldest man to play international cricket.
On March 10, 2025 during their first match on the tour of Costa Rica, Falkland Islands became the 106th team to play international cricket. All 11 of their cricketers were above 31, and barring two, all were above 40. This included three who had passed their 56th birthday, but none of them was as old as Brownlee.
At 62, Brownlee became the first man to play T20Is, or any international cricket, after turning sixty.
Brownlee went on to play two more T20Is, on March 11 and 12. He batted at 10 in all three matches, making 1, 2 not out, and 3 not out. In his second match, he also bowled an over of medium pace. He was 62 years 147 days on the day of his last game. If he plays again, he will move up the list.
Who is the oldest international cricketer of all time?
The oldest to play across gender, however, is Gibraltar wicketkeeper Sally Barton, who played all six of her games in 2024, the year she turned 67. Across genders, Brownlee is at third place, though less than a year separates Guernsey’s Philippa Stahelin and him.
The men’s record was previously held by Osman Goker of Turkey at the Continental Cup of 2019, who got a game against hosts Romania during the 2019 Continental Cup. Some Turkish cricketers had visa issues, which forced them to pick some they otherwise would not have.
