AB de Villiers will make a comeback to professional cricket, four years after he retired from all formats of the game, in the second edition of the World Championship of Legends competition.

When did Ab de Villiers retire from cricket?
It will be the first time de Villiers would play in a professional capacity since he retired in 2021. The last tournament he played was that year's edition of the IPL, in which he scored 212 runs for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, before they bowed out of the competition in the Eliminator. During his international career, De Villiers scored 8,765 runs in 114 Tests, 9,577 runs in ODIs, and 1,672 T20I runs, as well as playing 340 T20 games across his career with 9,424 runs from them.
The 40-year-old retired from international cricket in 2018, bringing to an end a career which spanned 14 years. His final match for South Africa was in the 2018 Test series against Australia at Johannesburg.
When will de Villiers return to action?
De Villiers will join the South Africa side in the World Championship of Legends, and will play alongside former national teammates Dale Steyn and Imran Tahir, as well as Herschelle Gibbs.
The tournament is set to begin on July 18 this year, with the Australia side the reigning Champions from the inaugural edition.
