India have strengthened their position in the top three of the 2022-2025 ICC Women's Championship points table following their whitewash of the West Indies in the three-match ODI series that concluded today (December 27).
India won the third ODI of the series by five wickets to complete the clean sweep. West Indies had started poorly with the bat after winning the toss, before two redeeming partnerships in the middle order took them to 162. Deepti Sharma etched her name in record books by picking 6-31, becoming only the second bowler to take two six-fors in women's ODIs after Sune Luus.
India were aggressive throughout their run-chase, not worrying about losing wickets along the way. Harmanpreet Kaur scored a 22-ball 32 at No.4, while Richa Ghosh provided the finishing touches with an unbeaten 23 off 11 balls in a knock that included three sixes. India chased the target down with 21.4 overs to spare.
Earlier in the series, India had made two big scores - 314-9 and 358-5 - crushing West Indies on both occasions. With the 3-0 victory, India have moved closer to England in the Women's Championship points table, trailing them by just one point. West Indies, on the other hand, will now need to win their remaining three ODIs against Bangladesh to sneak into the top six and gain an automatic qualification for the 2025 World Cup.
Currently, West Indies have 14 points from 21 matches and are ninth on the table. Bangladesh are seventh with 19 points from as many matches. New Zealand are sixth, with 21 points but their games are done. If Bangladesh win even one of the three ODIs against the West Indies, they will go past New Zealand to have a minimum of 22 points and will gain direct qualification for the World Cup, leaving both New Zealand and West Indies to play the Qualifier.
For West Indies to qualify directly, they need to win each of the three ODIs, which will take them to 23 points, above both New Zealand and Bangladesh.
