Bangladesh have catapulted into contention to finish in the top six of the ICC Women's Championship table after their 3-0 series-win over Ireland. Here are the updated standings for the competition following the series.
Bangladesh beat Ireland comprehensively in the final ODI of the three-match series in Mirpur. Despite a half-century from Gaby Lewis, the tourists were bowled out for 185 batting first, Fahima Khatun the pick of the bowlers taking 3-43 in her 10 overs. Fargana Hoque and Sharmin Akhter both passed 50 in the chase, with Bangladesh reaching their target three wickets down with 75 balls to spare.
That game followed Bangladesh's 154-run win in the first ODI, in which Akhter also scored 96, and their five-wicket win in the second ODI. Hoque was named player of the series, having scored a half-century in each of the three matches, coming back from a disappointing series against Australia where she was dismissed before reaching double figures in all three innings.
ICC Women's Championship format
That result has put Bangladesh above Pakistan and into seventh in the ICC Women's Championship standings. The competition decides which sides will qualify automatically for the 2025 Women's Cricket World Cup, and which sides will have to go through the qualifier tournament. The top six sides at the end of the cycle will secure automatic qualification.
Bangladesh have one three-match ODI series remaining in the cycle, it will coincidentally also be the final series in the cycle, meaning Bangladesh will know exactly what they need by the time it's played. Currently, they are one point behind New Zealand, who also have one series remaining - against Australia. Given that Pakistan have already finished their quota of matches, the only team currently behind Bangladesh are West Indies - the side Bangladesh will play their final series against.
While Bangladesh only have to win one more match than New Zealand from their final three in order to qualify above them, West Indies must win at least three of their remaining matches, to catch Bangladesh's current points total. If Bangladesh beat West Indies in all three games, they will go through regardless of how many matches West Indies win in their series against India.
