Watch: Kim Garth of the Gujarat Giants bowled Simran Shaikh with a brilliant yorker to claim a five-wicket haul against the UP Warriorz.
With a 32-ball 46, Harleen Deol helped the Gujarat Giants reach 169-6 against the Warriorz at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai after stand-in captain Sneh Rana opted to bat.
Garth, a late replacement for Deandra Dottin, then produced an opening spell of exquisite seam bowling, taking out Alyssa Healy, Shweta Sehrawat, and Tahlia McGrath in her first two overs to reduce the Warriorz to 20-3.
Kiran Navgire (53 in 43 balls) and Deepti Sharma (11 in 16) then took the Warriorz to 86-4 before Sharma fell. Rana recalled Garth, whose figures read 2-0-14-3 at this point.
Garth bounced out Navgire with her fourth ball, and out strode Simran, the prolific Mumbai batter with a penchant for teeing off quickly. Unfortunately, Garth’s first ball was quick, aimed straight for the base of the off-stump. It was too good a ball for Shaikh.
Devika Vaidya avoided the hat-trick, and Rana took off Garth again. When Garth returned, to defend 53 in three overs, Grace Harris and Sophie Ecclestone went after her, taking 20 off her fourth over. From 3-0-16-5, Garth finished with 4-0-36-5.
The Warriorz still 33 in two overs, but Harris (59 not out in 26 balls) and Ecclestone (22 not out in 12) saw them home with a ball to spare.
