New Zealand’s tour of the West Indies will commence with a T20I in Jamaica on August 10. Here is the WI vs NZ 2022 schedule, containing the full list of fixtures and match timings for the tour.
New Zealand, fresh on the back of T20I series victories against Ireland, Netherlands and Scotland, will embark on a white-ball adventure to the Caribbean islands in August. The Black Caps have selected a full-strength squad for the ODI and T20I series, hinting a plan for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia and the ODI World Cup in India next year.
Kane Williamson, ravaged by injuries since the 2021 T20 World Cup, returns to assume captaincy duties. Daryl Mitchell, Devon Conway, Finn Allen, Glenn Phillips, James Neesham and Martin Guptill are also part of the side, giving New Zealand a fairly well-rounded batting unit.
Tim Southee and Trent Boult come back into the fold too, having not been a part of the Black Caps’ recent white-ball assignments. Ish Sodhi, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry and Mitchell Santner make up the rest of the bowling attack.
The West Indies would also want to build on this summer’s promising performances in limited-overs cricket this summer. They were unable to beat India in the ODIs, but have fared fairly decently in the shortest format. The T20 World Cup is not very far away and with them having to undergo the grind of a qualifying campaign, this series could be the perfect opportunity for them to start finalising their plans for the global event.
The tour will begin with three T20Is – each of which are slated to be played at Sabina Park, Jamaica. The caravan will then move to Barbados for a three-match ODI series, which will begin on August 17.
