Watch: Comeback man Yasir Shah left Kusal Mendis stunned with a delivery that is being regarded as a candidate for ‘ball of the century’ during the first Sri Lanka-Pakistan Test at Galle.
Playing a Test for the first time since August 2021, Shah sent down a sharply-turning ripper in the 56th over of Sri Lanka’s first innings on Monday. The first ball of the over pitched outside the leg stump before it spun away from the batter and went on to dismantle the bail at the top of the off stump. The dismissal left Mendis, who was batting on 76 at the time, completely bewildered.
The ball by Shah is drawing comparisons to Shane Warne’s ‘Ball of the Century’, which he sent down to Mike Gatting in 1993.
Shah, who had picked up two wickets in the first innings, ended with a three-wicket haul in the second leg, also picking up the wickets of opener Oshada Fernando and Dhananjaya de Silva. Sri Lanka made 337 in their second innings to set Pakistan a target of 342 to win the first Test.
