Watch: When AB de Villiers perfected the rare backfoot on-drive in a World Cup game

by Wisden Staff 1 minute read

Watch: AB de Villiers is known for manufacturing shots that inevitably make it into highlight reels, but in this 2015 ICC World Cup game against Pakistan, he perfected a rather rare back-foot on-drive.

The 2015 World Cup game between South Africa and Pakistan saw a single-handed effort from de Villiers go in vain as the then-Proteas skipper fell for 77 in a run-chase of 232.

Studded with some magnificent shots, the highlight of the innings was perhaps a brilliant backfoot punch through the on-side off Wahab Riaz that raced through mid-wicket, beating two fielders to the fence.
