Put in to bat, Mumbai Indians lost Ishan Kishan in the third over, bringing Suryakumar to the crease. Along with former MI captain Rohit Sharma, he stitched together an 81-run partnership for the second wicket before adding another 49 with Tilak Varma for the third.
Having made a duck in the previous game, Suryakumar was back to his typical best, playing the kind of wristy shots that he normally does. He reached his fifty in the 11th over, off 34 balls.

Kagiso Rabada was brought into the attack in the 14th over where he gave just six runs. However, his third over of the night and second of the spell cost Punjab a lot.
On the third ball of the over, Suryakumar lofted him over mid-off for a four, before an attempted yorker ended up being a full toss which the MI No.3 got inside the line of, and scoop-flicked it over fine-leg for a gigantic six. The ball ended up landing on the top tier of the stands.
Two balls later, Varma pulled Rabada for the second six of the over, which ended up costing 18.
Suryakumar was eventually caught sharply by Prabhsimran Singh at point in the next over off the bowling of Sam Curran as he fell for a well-made 78 off 53 balls.
