Watch: Kolkata Knight Riders batter Venkatesh Iyer struck a gigantic 106-metre six – the longest of IPL 2024 so far – while playing against Royal Challengers Bengaluru yesterday (March 29).

With KKR’s score reading 96-2 in 8.3 overs, Mayank Dagar, bowling from around the wicket, pitched it on a length around middle. Venkatesh, fresh at the crease, charged down the wicket. He covered the line of the ball and dispatched it over deep mid-wicket. The ball soared high and handsome, almost landing on the roof of the Chinnaswamy stadium. It hit the hoardings in the top tier of one of the stands. The distance of the six read a monstrous 106m.

Chasing 183, KKR got off to a blazing start, scoring 85-0 in the first six overs, thanks to Sunil Narine (47 off 22) and Phil Salt (30 off 20). That was also their second-highest powerplay total behind 105-0 against the same opponent in 2017.

The opening blitzkrieg meant KKR made light work of the target. Venkatesh scored a 30-ball 50, including three fours and four sixes, and Shreyas Iyer a 24-ball 39 to get KKR over the line in 16.5 overs.
