Malik, who debuted for Hyderabad last season, has been one of the stars of this year’s competition with 15 wickets to his name and regularly bowling above 150kph.
His spell against Delhi Capitals featured four balls north of 153 kph (95mph) but was an otherwise poor outing for the quick, who conceded 52 runs off his four overs.
And as it happened, the fastest delivery of the lot also went for four. As West Indian batter Rovman Powell played a remarkable shot through cover to send the 157 kph delivery to the boundary almost as quickly as it had been bowled.
The match would end in a 21-run victory for the Capitals, who leapfrogged Hyderabad to go fifth in the table and sent Kane Williamson’s side to a third straight defeat having previously won five games on the bounce.
With the play-off race hotting up, both teams are still in contention and just one win behind Royal Challengers Bangalore, who are two points ahead of both but have played one game more.
