Watch: Naseem Shah repeated his Asia Cup heist against Afghanistan, pulling off a one-wicket win with two final-over boundaries off Fazalhaq Farooqi, and celebrating in remarkably similar style.
Afghanistan had never beaten Pakistan in an ODI before today, but that run looked set to end when Farooqi ran out Shadab Khan at the non-striker’s end, leaving Pakistan needing 11 off six balls with one wicket in hand.
That reckoned without Naseem, however, who hit a boundary to bring the equation down to seven off five, regained the strike with three needed off two, and edged another four to spark wild scenes.
Just as in the Asia Cup, he tore away from the crease, discarding his equipment as he went. Here, he threw his bat and then his helmet as he was mobbed by his teammates.
Pakistan sealed a series win and reclaimed the ODI No.1 team ranking with victory, and they had Naseem to thank for doing so.
