Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat first in the second match of the 2023 Asia Cup. Left-hander Tanzid Hasan was handed a debut in the absence of Litton Das. However, he didn’t have the best of starts to his career.
Theekshana shared the new ball with Kasun Rajitha and came on to bowl the second over of the innings. The first ball struck Hasan’s pads as he missed an attempted flick. Theekshana adjusted his line and length ever-so-slightly and got Hasan to come forward the next ball, only for him to be completely bamboozled by the drift.

This time Hasan was struck on the backfoot and was caught plumb in front for a second-ball duck on his international debut. Theekshana, however, was not done yet.
Najmul Hossain Shanto came out to bat at No.3 and was found searching for the ball. The second and fourth balls he faced, the fourth and sixth of the over respectively, hit his pads. While the former was harmless, Sri Lanka believed they had their man with the latter as they went up for a review after the on-field umpire gave it not out. Fortunately for Bangladesh and Shanto, replays showed the ball pitching just outside leg stump and he was saved.
Theekshana bowled three overs in his first spell, registering figures of 3-1-9-1.
