Watch: Logan van Beek put on one of the greatest performances in a Super Over as he first smashed 30 runs and then followed it up with two wickets to all but end West Indies’ World Cup hopes in the World Cup Qualifier game yesterday (June 27).

Chasing 375, the Netherlands hung in the game as almost everyone contributed with the bat. Van Beek came to the crease at No.8 with 50 required off the last 26 balls and scored a 14-ball 28.

With nine required off the last over, van Beek struck a boundary off the first ball but was not able to finish the job as the match ended in a dramatic tie. He was not done though.

In an inspired move, Netherlands sent out van Beek to bat in the Super Over given the momentum he was carrying from the chase. He took strike and hit the first ball for four. West Indies had curiously picked Jason Holder as their bowler for the Super Over, a decision that cost them dearly in the end.

The boundaries kept flowing as van Beek smashed three fours and three sixes to take the Netherlands to 30 runs in the Super Over. It took his match tally to 58 runs off 20 balls. If that was not enough, he then came out to bowl the Super Over for the Dutch.

After being hit for a six first ball, van Beek kept his calm and recovered soon enough, conceding singles of the next two balls. With the game sealed, van Beek finished it off with two wickets off two balls to hand West Indies a crushing defeat and the Netherlands a victory for the ages.

It was a bittersweet experience for van Beek, whose grandfather Sammy Guillen had played Test cricket for the West Indies (as well as New Zealand).
