Peshawar Zalmi were bowled out for 154 after Karachi Kings captain Shan Masood won the toss and opted to field at a PSL 2024 match at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Peshawar were reduced to 40-3 before captain Babar Azam (72 in 51 balls) and Rovman Powell (39 in 25) put on 68 for the fourth wicket to steady the ship. Apart from Asif Ali (23 in 16), they were the only ones to reach double figures as Mir Hamza returned 3-28 and Hassan Ali 3-30.
Despite wicketkeeper Muhammad Akhlaq’s early onslaught (24 in 13 balls), Luke Wood (2-20) then struck twice to keep Karachi to 48-2 after the powerplay. Shoaib Malik took 29 balls for his 29, but Karachi were always one big over away from sealing the match. That came in the 15th over, bowled by left-arm wrist-spinner Waqar Salamkheil.
Karachi needed 45 in 36 balls when Waqar began his over, from over the wicket. The first ball pitched on leg-stump, and Pollard made room to smash it to the extra-cover fence, one bounce, past a diving Wood.
He lofted the second ball over long-on for six. Waqar bowled flat and wide of off stump, but Pollard cut with ferocity to pick up four. The next two balls disappeared for sixes as well, over the bowler and over long-off. A helpless Waqar now bowled a googly, but Pollard read it and cut for a single.
Karachi needed only 18 in 30 balls. They needed only 11 more as James Vince (38 not out in 30) and Pollard (49 not out in 21) sealed a seven-wicket win.
