Australia started the day needing 14 wickets for a win. They reduced South Africa to 167-7, but a stubborn 80-run partnership between Keshav Maharaj and Simon Harmer kept them at bay. While South Africa still failed to avoid the follow-on, they went into the final session with Australia still requiring nine wickets for victory.

Klaasen had batted well but with a lot of fortune for his 35 as he had survived an umpire’s-call LBW decision off Nathan Lyon before another controversial third-umpire decision on a low catch went his way.

Hazlewood took everyone out of the equation however as with the ball beginning to reverse he delivered a beauty to Klaasen that even he could not survive.

Angling in, the ball then darted viciously towards the right-hander and cut him in half and smash into his stumps.
