After Australia went one-up in the three-match series, they gave Jake Fraser-McGurk a maiden international cap in the second ODI. Fraser-McGurk had a most singular debut: he was beaten twice, hit a four and a six, and fell fifth ball – all in the same over from Alzarri Joseph.
The duel between Joseph and Fraser-McGurk spilled into the third ODI, at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. Asked to bat, the West Indies were shot out for 86 by Xavier Bartlett (4-21), Lance Morris (2-13), and Adam Zampa (2-14). Barring Alick Athanaze (32), no one went past 12.
Opening batting, Fraser-McGurk went after Joseph in the third over when he lofted consecutive balls over the off-side field for fours. Joseph responded with a 147 kph bouncer that Fraser-McGurk missed, and like a typical fast bowler, went up to utter a few words.
Fraser-McGurk went after Matthew Forde in the next over. He hit a six over mid-on, leg-glanced the next ball for four, and followed with two consecutive sixes over mid-wicket.
He retained strike, and dismissed the first two balls of Joseph’s next over for fours. However, Joseph had the last laugh, having Fraser-McGurk caught off the next ball, for an 18-ball 41.
Oshane Thomas later snared Aaron Hardie, but Australia used only two wickets and 6.5 overs to sweep the series 3-0. The entire match lasted 31 overs.
Across two ODIs, Fraser-McGurk has hit six fours and four sixes from 23 balls, and has struck at 222.
