Last month, Delhi Capitals brought Jake Fraser-McGurk, a much-spoken-about Australian youngster, as replacement after Lungi Ngidi was ruled out of IPL 2024. Initially unsold in the auction, Fraser-McGurk was roped in for his base price of INR 50 lakh and got his first opportunity in the league against Lucknow.
Only 21, Fraser-McGurk walked out at No.3 in the fourth over of the innings after David Warner fell. He took no time to get going, smashing a six on the second ball that he faced, hitting a short-of-length ball by Yash Thakur, who picked up a five-for in LSG’s previous game, over deep mid-wicket.
Fraser-McGurk slowed down thereafter and was 25 off 23 at one stage before doing a hat-trick of sixes against Krunal Pandya, who had an economy rate of 7.40 in five games before the match against Delhi, in the 13th over. He heaved the first ball over deep mid-wicket, the second over deep extra cover, and the third over long-off, taking Delhi close to the target of 168.
He also hit two fours in his innings and departed in the 15th over with a strike rate of 157, helping Delhi win their second game in six outings.
